Jobs in the hospitality and tourism career cluster involve planning, managing, and providing lodging, food, recreation, conventions, and tourism and related planning and support services such as travel related expenses. Essentially hospitality managers run the day-to-day operations of a restaurant or hotel, including overseeing personnel, ensuring that the facilities are properly maintained, taking steps to ensure customer satisfaction and overseeing the upkeep of administrative and financial records. Chefs work in the hospitality industry and hold specialty positions such as executive chef, sous-chef and pastry chef. In addition to attending culinary schools, restaurant chefs can break into the business without attending school but rather through on-the-job training.
